I did use Data Merge — I clarified it by rewriting the text just now. I know there are hacks/features to size things, but I don’t think there are hacks/features to size things and to reposition them later.

Plus, I also needed to show/hide objects depending on spreadsheet fields, and I don’t think Data Merge alone supports that…
